Scientific name: Hymenaea courbaril
Courbaril, internationally known as Jatoba, is a prestigious tropical timber native to South America and particularly prevalent in French Guiana. Recognized for its exceptional robustness, this wood stands out for its high density, natural durability, and remarkable mechanical qualities, making it one of the most sought-after tropical woods.
Its aesthetic appeal is just as appreciated: Jatoba displays a color ranging from deep reddish-brown to more golden hues, often enlivened by contrasting grains that give it a unique personality. Over time, its color intensifies and gains warmth, enhancing the projects in which it is used.
Thanks to its mechanical resistance and stability, Courbaril is widely used in demanding applications such as high-end flooring, stairs, worktops, interior and exterior joinery, as well as in timber construction where longevity is essential.
