**Gaïac**, more widely known internationally as Cumaru, is a large tree native to northern Amazonia, particularly found in the forests of eastern French Guiana. It is also famous for its precious Tonka beans, small seeds with an intense aroma, highly sought after in gastronomy and pastry-making.

Its wood, of exceptional hardness and great natural durability, is among the most robust species in the region. Although its pronounced interlocked grain sometimes makes it delicate to work with, once machined, it reveals a sumptuous polish and a high-end finish.

Thanks to its remarkable mechanical properties, Gaïac is ideal for cutlery (durable and elegant knife handles), turning decorative or utilitarian objects, as well as for creations where longevity and aesthetics must be combined.

Advantages: extreme hardness, natural durability, brilliant finish after polishing.
Main applications: cutlery, turning, small decorative objects, high-end crafts.
Average density: 1,000 to 1,100 kg/m³.
